Dear Alison, deep melancholy can't be avoided on this day while your heart remembers him so dearly. May you feel his soul and his arms reaching through time and space hugging you.

love and hugs

Thank you all - it's a day that I celebrate his birth.  Today I went out on a long ride with friends on my snowmachine (snowmobile) for non-Alaskans.  I think he would approve -- and I think I heard him keep yelling for me to slow down!!

Zach, he was 23 when he died.

Alison, I think it is very important that we remember the dates of birth, celebrations, life, and death. Kudos to you for doing something on your brother's birthday that he would enjoy!

I know you don't know me very well, but without my brother, I wouldn't have published my first novel. I owe him so much in memory, that you have, and I think will see many more remembrances from my pen to him.

Follow your dreams were some of his few last words to me, both in person, and on IM. I'm pragmatic enough to know, Alison, that we have to be "real" in a virtual world, but we also have to have some virtue in a real world as well.

Thank you for sharing your brother with us, dear. In a few words, you said volumes with your love.

Alison, to have lost your brother, and especially at the young age of 23, must have been unbearably difficult for you.

He will always remain alive in your heart and be a part of your spirit.

I still carry in my heart those whom I have lost who never got to live their lives out. ~ Nieces and nephews and cousins ~ 1 week, 5 years, 8 years, 9 years, 18 years, 25 years. I still miss them and occasionally shed tears over how they were wrenched away from us. Mind you, I do take comfort that they are in a blissful place now and are safe from some of the insanity here on earth.

Wrapping my arms around you with understanding and compassion,

Love
Linda

You are so right - I can't remember them all.  But there are a few that can not be forgotten.  My brother is one of those.  He was my big brother - the one closest to me in age.  We were inseperable -

Lindsay,

Thank you, my friend.  He was (is) a special man and my family was blessed to have him as long as we did.  Some people may be too beautiful for this life.

If so, he was one such person.

Sunshine,

Thank you for such a beautiful message.  When I read this, I smiled so big.  You are right, we don't know each other well - but I have seen the beauty of you. I have read some of your poems and been stunned by the beauty of expression and the depth of your emotions.  I don't have to know you to see that you are a special person and I am glad that you had your brother too.  They may not have lived as long as some people, but I think they gave more love in their lifetimes than some give who have lived here on this earth years longer.

Thank you,

Love

Ali,

I know sometimes you must think past here
There is nowhere to go

Please believe me that isn't so
The road goes further than you can see

I know this is true because it's happened to me

Tender words and kind thoughts
Can never heal the pain

But these I give to you with love
If it helps to ease the strain....

I feel for you,  John
