        Winter Lake

A lone young night heron…

wings a sunset fire-sky
over sharp black mountains
mirrored in frozen ripples
on this lake of winter dreams.

A solitary battered boat…

lies in stasis
mid the melting ice rings
along the shore…
biding time.

Outstanding!
Perfect contrasting images of movement and stasis, young and old.

This is word pictures at its finest..the thought behind its construction is fine...perhaps it could do with more words? Not too many more? It's just that it gives you a taste but maybe more of a taste would leave us more saitsfied..but great poem..thank you..

Goldenrose.

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky, ring out the old, ring in the new, ring out the false, ring in the true..A Lord Tennyson

This is intended simply as that impressionistic 'taste'...
the 'something more' depends on the length, breadth,
depth, and direction of each reader's (eclectic) imagination...

What a contrast
One heart is dreaming spring. (winter dream is always about spring ) and one mind takes what ever life offers.
Beautiful.

Quick! Get me a camera! ~ No, I don't really need one! You captured the scene with your pen!

You just transported me there in thought ... absolutely beautiful!
Winter lakes are a breathtaking view ... and when there is ice, wow! Ice skating in such endeavours, true paradise!

Secondhanddreampoet,

Time to get out there on the lake and chop some ice blocks up for the ice house.  You gotta get ready for the summer tourist season.

Bruce, you are such a pleasure to read.  I can visualize this all so well with your superb choice of words.

I both agree & disagree with Goldenrose. Bruce you always conjure up vivid images in my minds eye with your splendid offerings, the economy of words is just right, always leave 'em wanting more! I for one surely do...thanks for starting my day so wonderfully
