Felix is walking the street downtown.
He’s hungry,
and doesn’t know what to do about it.

A well dress man sidles up beside him.
The man seems anxious,
like he doesn’t want to be heard, or seen.
Felix is suspicious.

“Hi son, where you heading?”

“Nowhere.”

“Do you mind
if I walk beside you
for a minute?”

“No.”

“Are you hungry,
could you use a bite to eat?”

“Yeah—I could eat.”

“Will you let me buy you
a hamburger?”

“Yeah mister,
a hamburger would fit real nice.”

The man takes Felix
to a fast food joint,
and treats him to a hamburger,
slice of pie,
and a cherry coke.

Felix feels stronger now.
They walk back out into the street.

“Why don’t you come up to my place?
I have something interesting
up there to show you.
Something I think you’ll like.”

Felix thinks to himself:

“Yeah,
I know just what
he wants to show me.
I’ve been there before.”

“Ah, I’m sorry mister,
I don’t think so.
Thanks for the hamburger.
You’re a life saver.”

Felix took a risk ~ but at least he got a meal out of it!

I'm glad his radar kicked in and kept him from going to that man's place. Felix could have been HIS meal!

Artic Wind,

Thanks for the kind words.  I’m pleased you are enjoying the story.  It’s never a good idea to go with strangers, even if they are friendly and nice.

Felix didn’t go with the man, because his sixth sense told him that the man might hurt him in some way.  Of course, Felix never did find out what was in the man’s room.

Earth Angel,

Yes, Felix knows things, and knows to avoid possible danger.  You never can tell.

TomMark,

Yes, Felix is smart.  He got that way from experience.

The main turn-off for Felix on this guy, was the fact the guy didn't appear to have any money.  He looked bad for businness.

There is no such thing as a happy childhood.  It does not exist in nature.

Thanks for reading and for your comment.

I'm pleased Felix got some food... I don't think the man's intentions were good at all!
Felix's sixth sense was working good that day!  love RDB

RDB,

Yes, food is always good.  I wrote this thing, and it brought back old memories.  It gave me a "what if?" panic attack.  I probably won't be able to sleep tonight.

I've had invites like that.  Like Felix, I was able to see through them.  They are so obvious.

TomMark,

Enjoyed reading this...reminds me of a time when I was in downtown Honolulu and I had just bought me a hamburger...walking down the street I was just about to take my first bite and a woman walking by tried to grab it while it was somewhere between my hand and mouth...saying loudly..."Give me that burger".  I made a quick side move and said "This is my burger".  Later I was thinking that she needed it more than me, and I wished I had given it to her...I probably would have if she had asked nicely...James

James,

That lady sent you on a guilt trip.  We should always protect our food.

Yes Bobby I think Felix was very wise in

not accepting the invitation about going to

his flat. Enjoyed the read.

Passing shadows,

Yes, Felix ain't so dumb.  He's learned a lot out there on the street.  The street is an excellent university.
