It Was an Ordinary Day (Reposted from The Corner Pub on this anniversary)

It was an ordinary day
After weekend of some rest and play,
No reason to be filled with dread,
No inkling of that which was ahead.

Some studied and some greeted friends,
No omens and no dire portends.
No reason then to wonder why
Some would live on as others die.

Their beloved campus glowed with life
Without a hint of coming strife.
Until the shot and ricochet
It was an ordinary day.

Lulled by the interlude of peace
The students laughed with fear's release
Until the shots rang out again
And fellow students cried with pain.

They knew without a single doubt
Madness and mayhem were about.
They ran for safety from the sound.
They were the prey, he was the hound.

Thirty-two precious lives were lost;
Their loved ones left to bear the cost.
Before such evil came to stay
It was an ordinary day.

Joyce~
As the news played the anniversary reports yesterday ... I was moved, once more, to tears~

What tragic losses~

I have always thought that as long as a perpetrator was going to end up taking his own sick life ... he should just use the first bullet on himself~

Thank you for the tenderness of your thoughts~
