Taboo Affection

What makes you the flame
is the skeleton of that
which makes me the moth

guilty bystanders
walk in their own stagnant sludge
warm thick abandon

I tread no longer
in swamps I have created
left for lesser man

like weevils for
sustenance or shelter
the mulch benefits

allure; aversion
still work to looks its equal
but I know better

isolating truth
roots entrenched but bud aloft
my barren touch bleeds

you choose not to see
unfurled fire so distinct
to the core’s own heat

I wish not to be
existence comes with a price
too condescending

I find it fitting
the berries of mistletoe
are filled with poison
