for years, ages then,
beauty tried to catch my eye.

tried to snare my soul in
her velvet grasp.

she called my name,
she may as well have been screaming in digital
or speaking in pantomime.

when my daughter was born
i caught a glance of beauty.
we greeted each other as enemies,
sizing up each other in traitorous eyes.

as i watched my child grow,
beauty and i came to be friends.
on speaking terms anyway.

then,
little by little,
day by day,
moment by torturous moment,
beauty chose to leave me.

she took my daughter with her,
and my mother soon followed.
I damned beauty,
cast her shadow away from me.

for ages i lived in the dark.
i viewed the world with disdain.

i closed myself off to everyone.
i became,
i became a shadow.

then one day,
beauty threw a pebble in the ocean
and changed it forever.

she came calling in the guise
of a kindred soul.
she wouldnt take no for an answer,
even if i was capable of denying her.

beauty brought to me a gift.
a beauty of my own.

she brought me you.

the cure for my hating soul.

and through you she has shown me
the beauty that resides in me.
in the eyes of a once-haunted man.

what do you say to the greatest gift of all ?
what words could possibly convey the beauty that
you bring to my life ?

there are no words.

only,

thank you.

C_fuller,

"Thank you" are two fine words.

I'm glad beauty spoke and you listened.
Obviously your poetry comes from someone who has something to give.

c-fuller, I enjoyed this however, it doesn't "sit" right with me due to the formatting. I know Bobby will disagree most vehemently, but I like to see capital i etc in poetic posts....just a personal preference & probably wrong but there you go....John
