An
Irishman that
doesnt drink, rarely fights
and likes to think.

yet no one believes me.

I was Irish before it
became fashionable.

I was Irish when the signs
on the streets spoke volumes;
"no Irish need apply".

I was Irish in 1916,
when we stood and fell,
and Pearse was gunned
down in the stonebreakers yard.

I was Irish when the famine
came and took away my people's lives.

I was Irish when the Romans came,
and put the Celts to the blade.

I was Irish when the vikings came
and forever changed our hair to red.

I was Irish when Finn Mac Cool and
Strongbow trod this murderous isle
and St. Patrick rid the land of snakes.

I was Irish at birth
and will be so at death.
our memories never fade.

I am Irish, hear me roar,
in the cries of mothers long dead,
and in the tears of drunks yet to live.

I am Irish, I am Ireland, I am I .

I think the best way to test for Irish ancestry is to write a poem.
Yes, I definitely like your writing.

Beautifully lyrical! I have deep admiration for the Irish, and I'll never forget how they fought so bravely on the Side of the Union to free the slaves.

C_fuller,

This is a nice poem well written.  I love my orange pull-over sweater.
