On sullen paths
that lead to river's edge,
here my burning bridges
set in flames by crossing pain
against the striking flint of time
reflecting trails in fire's light,
mine are but nameless footprints
lost again in residue beneath debris,
fragrant ashes born of grief,
adrift on winds of change,
winds that echo dying screams
born of bloody memories
lives and dreams sacrificed carelessly
upon barren altars of belief.

I saw god flying patiently
right there next to me,
she was looping lazy circles
high up on the ceiling of the last room
where they'd told me,
once again to no effect,
I supposedly was dying
surrounded by my progeny
accompanied by the usual want to be
survivors quietly waiting
to dig right in to counting
what they thought they should be getting
for years of witless fawning,
at  least it seemed to me
that was what they were hoping
with some wistful wishful fantasies,
so all could stop their wondering
when I'd be gone and they'd be free
to get on about their marble busted lives
without me being burdensome
to dreams of soft reality.

((((Charlie)))) ... for god's sake! Tremendous poetry, masterfully written and so extremely achingly touching.

Love ... and thank you for the eyes!

Why is the narrator surrounded by such people?  I don't understand.  Even at the risk of growing old alone, I will not tolerate such people.

Anyway, I find it sad and intolerable, feelings invoked by your fine writing, again.

Masterful.

Hello, Icebox. I heard about your great gift from my friend and fellow poet, Ida. Her estimation of your brilliance was in no way an exaggeration! I'll be digging through the archives to read your work.

Best wishes,

Dear icebox, I don't think there's a poet alive who just writes the words without the emotion behind them so you have touched me deeply here.

When it comes to the people around you I would normally say that it's not possible to know what another is thinking and feeling but in your case I would say that it's highly likely that you do know.  I guess we've just got to remember that we're all human and that the "essence" of the other is probably reacting in a completely opposite manner.  Would that we could really know ourselves.

Take care,
Helen

I have seen too much of this myself and am contemplating having nothing of value of my own when that time comes ~~

The last time my mother scared us, she said she might yet live if we'd only stop kissing her goodbye.

*chuckle*

I have my father's face and my mother's charm.

a hug, you.

I am especially fond of:

Mr. C., as you have probably noticed I haven't had time to get in here lately, but tonight I felt "called."  Now I know why.  Though this poem may be reflective of your own very personal trials, it strikes me as being a universal-type of reflection; it is certainly true in a few situations of which I know well.  Our final trial, I think, and a trial of those surrounding; and the person who is suffering, aging or dying is the "witness."   When that time comes, may the feather fall weightless on Mot's scale for you, my friend.

Icebox,

This rather moves along slowly.  It's restful enough to put one to sleep.
