Over the years
the folk songs
have not changed meaning,
those from the sixties and seventies.
Listening to them reminded me
of another time of turmoil
and hope and reason.

I was a flower child
but in naiveness,
if ever there was such a thing.

I never expected
to feel those emotions return.
But today, while trying to relax,
I heard the songs of my youth
and their promise
of a tomorrow...

Music is surely a sign of the times, and always worth playing again and again~

Nice writing here, Maureen~

M,   this took me back, I too remember The Byrds & their ilk, I just think we were so lucky to grow up with for the most part what turned out to be classics. I have been listening to a lot of the music of my youth of late....the soundtrack to my life. I loved this & shall keep it...Thanks   John

too bad the 'promise' and social momentum of the 60's was aborted
and the "Runaway American Dream" has since further devolved into a
corporate mediocracy wherein (with the help of mass media; the internet;
and ever more ruthless politics) everything is being defined strictly in
economic terms (whereby key decisions are skewed toward only whatever
is corporately convenient and 'bottom-line-friendly.') "hope and reason" are
grand-fine but fast-fading dreams...especially for the rapidly increasing
numbers of 'disenfranchised' folk (the 'have nots' of our economic caste system!)

applause for this 'penning!'
