The Key
By Paul Wilson
“An attempt at Song Writing”
3500 Post

I’ve changed my address
phone numbers no longer the same
Just like yesterday you’re history
no more playing your game

Word on the street is you set me free
I wonder… how could that be
I was a prisoner of my own heart
no one had the key but me

Hearts will be broken
that’s how it’s gotta be
I gave you most all I had
but saved the best of me

Tomorrow I’ll start a new life
i’m foot loose and fancy free
Today you’re just a memory
that’s all you’ll ever be

No lights are on
in apartment number four
You came by last night
knocking on the door

Operator says sorry
this number has been changed
Starting today my life
is being re-arranged

Tomorrow I’ll start a new life
i’m foot loose and fancy free
Today you’re just a memory
that’s all you’ll ever be

Hearts will be broken
that’s how it’s gotta be
I gave you most all I had
but saved the best of me

The key to my heart
you never had
You’ll never know these tears
I still cry… hurt so bad

Paul, I like it & tried to 'sing' it in my head as a song rather than reading as a poem  & I have to say I'd rate it 18 with a bullet !

Yep, I'm so relating to your poem, Paul.   Ironically we've held the key all along!

This is good and right on the mark for me.

John...Take a crack at it, I'm sort of into country music, but I suppose any type of music would work, it's all in the listeners mind. Big fan of led Zep also...Paul
Maybe we can make a hit out of it LOL

LindsayP...Glad you liked this. SAD seems like thats all I know, but in a strange way, because what I write about is mostly always fictional. I really appreciate you taking time to read and reply...Paul

Paul, I'm partial to a bit of Zep myself although my major influences which will no doubt come through are Eagels, Crosby,Stills & Nash, Doobies, Jackson Browne, Dan Fogelberg, JJ Cale etc, etc   will get to work on it in the next day or so, I'll keep you posted........Cheers  John
