Still moments rolling off the fingertips - He watched them slowly fall until they vanished; Then murmured requiem with quivering lips For moments into past forever banished. In vain He clenched his hands, in vain He prayed To seize a second for eternal hold; Yet not a single moment steady stayed For all the precious jewels, diamonds, gold. Time seeks no favors - nor gives any man An audience to plead his mortal case; The endless bars of light and dark no ban Themselves will so admit, no pause of race. Ah, but Time, your gift is but a token; As She with hers entwined His trembling hand In a blink the clasp of Time was broken - Eternal shines their luminescent band! CG |
