Simmering
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Listless, lie I, on sweltering beach sands,
On this simmering, hot summer’s day.
The air is so heavy, I can scarce take a breath,
As my verve and élan slip away.

As humidity climbs, moisture clings to my skin,
~ How I long for a breeze off the lake.
And some fresh lemonade in a tall glass of ice,
To stir this somnolence, awake.

The heat is oppressive and wearing me down,
Stinging eyes are bleary and dim.
My mind is wandering and is drifting away,
~ Think I’ll slip off my clothes for a swim.

.

It's been a mighty hot summer, for sure, Linda!  Here I am in nearly nothing myself as one of our air conditioners is out so I totally can relate to this at the moment.  Sending you a tall glass, my sweets.......kbhbly.....lily jo

Well, indeed this is perfect for my own experience of this day, though I was not on the beach (too hot)... we had 45° Celsius (113 Fahrenheit) with a high rate of humidity, so as to feel as if the temperature was 122! Let us gather in upper spheres of coolness and have an ice lemon juice! I hope it won't last much longer ... it is nearly unbearable.
Your words help to evoke the pleasure of my recent swimming in the North Sea, in Belgium. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh ...
While the temperature is hot,  your pen my dear Poetess Angelo Terrestre is as refreshing as always, like a caressing waterfall.

Love and hugs.

O my!  Your verve and élan is showing!
But I like it!

I read your poems, potty mouth and simmering.
I must say, your writing shows dexterity of switching mood, being cute, having attitude, and showing imagery really good.

Great job done well.

Oh no, lily jo! What a time for your air conditioner to zonk out! We have our central air crank right down so it is as cool as a cucumber in our humble abode. I cannot take the heat. Whenever I leave our domicile, I cannot wait to return to my cool inner sanctum.

Giving you a very cool hug ~ with lots of affection! lol

My word! I would literally melt away with the kind of high temps that you're getting in your corner of the world!

I would love to sip a glass of "ice lemon juice" with you ~ by the shores of the Baltic Sea. Sounds divine to me!

Love to you!

JL ~

I have a little secret to share with you...

I'm a skinny dipper! Mind you, I look for a very secluded area. I then shed my clothes and my inhibitions ~ and plunge in! lol

I'm pleased that I was able to convey that kind of intolerable summer heat.
