Gin Martini Moments of Self-Discovery

How sad is it when an inexplicable moment of clarity
becomes a mere whisper of a morning-after memory
stemming from a night-before martini epiphany.

You know, those nights sitting up late with a friend
eating olives dipped in gin (with a bit of vermouth)
and deciphering the mysterious paths of life?

You know, those conversations that are seeped with discovery
and you wonder why it took so long to understand
that the process is all that matters – the answers are incidental.

You know, you toy with a pencil between your fingers
knowing that if you still smoked you would inhale deeply
letting your mind relax as it blew smoke rings into the night

Those nights, you know, when for some reason it all makes sense
and mistakes were simply avenues of adventure
that led to this moment of brilliant, deep philosophical meaning

Finally sleep beckons and the need to succumb intensifies
overshadowing the weaving of thought and emotion
and, upon waking, it all seems a fortuitous revelation

lost to smoke rings floating above an empty olive jar.

---

Alison

"the process is all that matters – the answers are incidental."

Amen to that!
Great one aziza.

Alison... a wonderful write of just plain logic,
understood by many who have been there.
Thank you for sharing in such a delightful way.

"eating olives dipped in gin"

An enjoyable read!
(but perhaps, fix "was all seems" conflict)

Thank you all.

And MidniteSun, thank you for catching the conflict -- fixed it.
