November brings the clarity to her
Revealing depths that were hidden before
As she carried the silt from rains
That has now settled into the fine of sand
The primordial of some mud bound time
Caught between falling flame of autumn
And the promise of some laughing violet

Granted
She does run cold
And immersion is impossible but for the few
Who would chill the marrow of bone
Then try to find the warmth of weak sun
Or kindle a fire from what she left behind
In some rage that after a deluge
Lays scattered along her bed
Like remnant of cloth
Ripped from the flesh

She lies naked some say

To tempt the eyes
As she ignites the fire within
That would try to find the feel of her
Or smell the waft of perfume that comes
From skin exposed
In an attempt to steal her free from stones
That hold her here

Too soon it will snow
And leave these treks for my mind
But today,
I walk her lengths and think of you
And how it might have been
Had the strings of time been ours to mend
With tight knots that would bind

I do not own the river here
Nor have I ever owned you
Still I feel both move inside me
Haunting the morning fogs,
With 3A.M. Dreams that leave me aching
To find the valley where I might put my lips
Speaking dew tipped vowels against
The morning’s sun

November brings her clear

And I always
Think of you

thanks ma'am... for the eyes and the encouragement...

I might even get tired of pulling out these old dusty rambles and write something new one of these days...

This is wrapped so tightly capt...that one can peel the layers and find something new exposed under each one.

I can but feel the approaching winter but yet hidden under the bite of cold is still a warmth that lingers....

Lovely, deep writing.  I so enjoy reading you sir.

It is amazing how images of the river can stay with us over time.  I can recall many nights sleeping by the river and the lulling sounds that soothed me to sleep.
The river and the ocean have always had a particular hold near to my heart.

You write her sir, with an expert hand.

each time makes me stronger...but after the fall....
we get back up and move on,
because the past is the past
and there is no tomorrow
if remaining in still waters
while the river flows on...~dmsmith~

thank you ma'am....
rivers have always had a special hold on me i suppose.. a place of solace, of reflection, a place to draw from what was around me a bit more of what makes us whole...

appreciate your dropping back in...

Now, I'll not bore the world with my maudlin thoughts on rivers... lol...

The very sight and sound of flowing water stirs the blood and mind, takes the spirit along a seemingly endless timeless journey (whereas a still lake or pond brings the mind and body to a resting point)
For me, my heart always beats strongest near waterfalls, rivers, and the ocean.
At this point in my journey, it's the Susquehanna, and sometimes ol Miss. But my heart will always belong to the majestic Pacific.
Your words stir a pot of wonderful feelings, and I thank you, Sir, for the bountiful serving. (and thank you so much for reading my dribblings!)
