footnotes to a history of redemption

Page 3  footnote 1
In mythology, a woman who believed her voice was kept inside a tiny lion tin along with her baby teeth, beneath the bureau.

Page 14  footnote 2
the chaste pistils that wither, alas, the flower’s undoing.

Page 32  footnote 3
on Sundays, the chirping locust that rub moonlight panegyric from my swift thighs.

Page 40  footnote 4
the neap tide, the black soil, giving, taking, and your hands hold the heat in the iron that     brands me.

Page 42  footnote 5
it is terrifying: no song: no wings, feathers in the claw-foot tub.

Page 60 footnote 6
and how an empty room is merciless.

Page 72 footnote 7
a mélange of laughter once pithy as a cumquat, turns to the slow burn of merlot.

**Thanx for giving me the form, Chief

ah~
it works well with the image and is an intriguing understatement of time as well as of progressing ideas..

had the original footnote form used worked it would have been more concise and perhaps tighter...but I am glad you found an acceptable way to present it.

Truly love the form Belle, and oh so softly beautiful, your words and the graphic that settles in so softly upon the soul.  A treat to be reading you again lady..

Gentle Spirit...

this was just an experiment of sorts...and not original...in any way...I've seen it done in some Contemporary Poetry anthologies...so I wanted to play around with it...

Thanx for peeking in~
