Lumpy Oatmeal makes me Crazy!

Time Out

I missed the quiet me
that ‘take time for me’ person;
the one who spends time reading
until the early dark morning
and wakes up with the book sleeping at my side.

I missed me - the doodler of dreams,
and making anagrams
out of obscure words, playing
as if I am still in grade school.
My teacher trilling, “Okay, children,
how many words can you make out of Halloween?”

I mutter, “Who cares?”
as I frantically make words
competing against Mona
even though I haven’t seen her for years.
She always won – how boring!

I missed the quiet time of me
And I found myself in the dim corners
of my imagination and in the blank pages
that long to capture the essence of who I am.
And I realize that, like those words,

I am simply an anagram of emotions.

Brilliant! ~ and I do so know what you mean! Alison, I identify with so much of what I read in all of your poetry.

You have a poetic soul, heart ~ and pen!

Love to you!

Oh, yes, well done, Alison, and how true of us all.  Emotion is always the "starter" and intellect sometimes the "killer" but - sigh - I guess we're too lazy to take note and analyze emotion and prefer to reason the facts only.

Very interesting poem, Alison. I think the beat poet are so good because they remember little things that others forget or they simply don't care about them.

Thank you, Ida.

One of my favorite poets is Charles Bukowski.
