I can hear the scuffle
the short muffled screams
I've gotten in the middle
been threatened, tried to help
asked the police what I can do
but she is afraid to press charges
and in the end life goes on
the next night he kills her
on Christmas eve, while I celebrate
her body cools in sticky blood

A real man kisses his children goodnight

Sadly, this can be very real. Very powerful write.
One never expects the worst, or police does not believe or says they can't proceed against someone if there are no real proofs.

And then it's suddenly too late for prevention.
