A MAN’S GOTTA DO?

“A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do!”
To be in first place or to win the “game”
But the meaning of “sport” or “sportsman”
Is quickly turning into a dirty name.

Though, some part of the definition
May work and fit the way it is today
“Mockery”, or “contemptuous mirth”
Is how they act, and  the way they play.

They make the old term, “role model”
Sound like something that’s obscene
They teach the kids to lie and cheat
Do drugs and fight and all in between.

They act like prima donna harlots
Selling their souls for the ol’ buck
They couldn’t make it on their own
And so, that cheating deal is struck.

They make millions doing their “sport”
And they think they are above it all
Feel they can break the rules and laws
And they will never take the fall.

There should be a zero tolerance
And one second chance, no more
And if they don’t heed the warnings
They should be kicked on out the door.

They’re just one more bad example
Of the many (over) privileged few
Who aren’t made to walk the same line
Just the same way as me and you.

It’s not fair to the true sportsman
Who will play the game by the rules
Who use their talent, mind and heart
As their only winning tools.

But the people keep on coming
And they don’t seem to mind the cost
And keep paying for tickets to where
One more American value will be lost.

THEY'RE OUT!
(the players strike)

Whether it is in the "first"
Or, at the bottom of "nine"
All "sports" are businesses
And only seek the "bottom line"
The fans and the tradition
Are "out" at the beginning
And as far as I'm concerned
They've played, their final inning.

Nice writing...I heard some comments today on the news stating some of the reasons they didn't expose this sooner.  One reason was money, the steroid enhanced players created more excitement and brought in much needed fans...Looks like greed has struck again...James
