The Hush of Silence
by Linda L. Dowd

Opalescent flurries,
Cascade down in slow descent.
And shimmer in the morning light
Of brumal sun’s ascent.

An alabaster mantle,
Cloaks the sleeping countryside.
~ This surely must be heaven,
Where angels do reside.

There’s a crisp, frosty freshness
To the air that I breathe in,
And with every inhalation
I sense more calm within.

~ * ~

Within the hush of silence,
I did find my inner still.
And warmth suffused my body.
~ Replacing winter chill.

This brings me hope.  The hush of silence is sometimes deafening.  How I do love winter, except for being outside for long periods of time.  Maybe Santa will bring me a car

Lovely thoughts, Linda. I remember, as a child, how beautiful and peaceful winter is and how much fun we had playing in the snow.

Lovely memories, you have! I would miss our winter wonderlands if I were to move to where it didn't snow.

Thank you for your lovely reply, Dear Ida!

"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!"

Have a happy winter!

Lovely rhymes, Lynda and I can feel the peace in the beauty of your words, something that the holiday season can sometimes seem to lack.

Still, through softer eyes, winter can be so inredible beautiful at times.

i love this. Makes me feel all warm and toasty inside...=)
It vaguely reminds me of my recent poem bout leaves falling from a tree.
I adore the word choice you have in this too. I love the word hush....
it's the kind of word that sounds
exactly like its meaning...hushhhhh...lol

We dont have softly falling snow here at Christmas. If we get any at all it is

uaually in July or August but it does bring a smile to everyone's face when it does come.  Take care.

Dear one,

I just now chanced on this, busy as I have been in "catching up" since Sunday. I see the day this was written, and I smile. Thank you. On that very day, we had been two days without electricity - and in an all electric house, let me tell you, m'dear, it was mighty cold. And...it had snowed.

I know you did not mean this "for me", but I took it to heart, anyway. So, now, in a warm house, with a warm heart, I smile, and thank you, for writing such a

Sunshine ~

Good morning, Karilea! It is somewhat frightening to realize how dependent we all are upon the 'electric grid'.

How horribly chilling it must have been for you  to have been without electricity ~ especially when Old Man Winter was licking at your heels! ~ so to speak! lol

A few years back, we were without electricity for 5 days during the heat of the summer sun.
At least we could cook on the Bar Bee! Mind you, I don't know how some people survive without air conditioning! I nearly melted away.

I was thinking about you and sending prayers your way during the recent storms that hit Kansas.

I am moved that my poem has resonated with you to the point of you it. I now formally declare this post dedicated to you!

With love & Sun Light,

Linda
