I will tell you if you ask
and be as one inspired
by the energy of time
but life has turned the tables
and relegated love
to the underside.

There it mingles with the dust
and lines a spider’s web
and indeed it prays most every day
to evade life’s searching eyes.

Sit with me a moment;
life is making a clean sweep
and advancing like a predator
on what I want to keep.

Don’t speak, don’t breathe,
it’s here, you see,
up close and personal “like”
waving the tools of death
and flicking memories
into the garbage can.

Love can run and it does
but you know it cannot hide
forever in the dungeon
of the dark inside
where sustenance is limited
to a spirit guide.

Love searches and it finds
the key to lock the doors
and alone it breathes the last of air
slowly, slowly, until dead.

You won’t see it “no more, no more,
you won’t see it no more”
but one and all perhaps should know,
love’s only dead until it’s not!

~ Helen, those lines stood out and had great emotional impact. I really felt them.

Thanks M and Linda.  Maybe what dies comes to life again but then again maybe not - 'tis just the mystery of life ... and love!

Helen, for some, this may be painfully truthful...for others, it is simply the way life is....and for me, I view each and every moment as a challenge, and on those few occassions, when we are at our zenith, to cherish those times, b/c those times get us through the next and the next...love is all kinds of emotions and situations...and not always about a phycical indulgence....but understanding a much bigger picture, as you do here.

Love to you and thank you for such a wondrous right!!!!

Hugs

"love is all kinds of emotions and situations"

So true LeeJ, and, yes, life is one big challenge but through that process we fray around the edges and it only takes a little pull to unravel the all and everything we once thought meaningful.  Then the challenge of putting it all back together again seems just too much bother.  Must be an age thing!
Hugs back to you dear lady.

Indeed...I suppose within our thoughts love is dead when we declare it to be dead...and comes back to life when we are ready to resume our association...your words remind me of a song..."Hit the road jack, and don't you come back, no more, no more, no more, no more."...I believe it was Ray Charles..."Oh woman, oh woman, don't you treat me so mean, you're the meanest 'ol woman I've ever seen."...James

Thanks Arctic Wind.  I appreciate the read.

James - Thank you.  The older I get or the more insightful I get, the easier it is to see the mean streaks in people and in women sometimes it's like lightening!

Helen, this is an impressive piece for sure.  Yes, love is only dead until it's not!  I cannot think of a better way to say that for it is so true.  This poem is holding a special place in my library now.  Someday, Helen, there will be a *wa-lah* moment; that is when the love births something new.  The struggles with love can bring real growth in awareness and ultimately, transformaton, don't you think?!  *hugs*.....jo

Keep some memories fresh. When life changes and the people in it change you can always remember you have known love. There are many who can not ever feel or say that. You can ..."late"

Jo - Thanks and, yes, I most definitely do think!  Transformation is such a slow process but one must be grateful that it happens.

"Late" - I guess it's true to say that I know love in part - the part that never dies.     Thank you for the read and for your comment.

vandana - thanks so much!
