Winter Comes

Tumbleweeds waltz
across  highways
to crowd like disappointed ugly sisters
against barb-wire.
Brown and slick sick-lime leaves
gavotte through alleys
to pile up in corners
like eager lovers.
Dust devils twirl in solemn rounds,
then fade and disappear
like yesterday’s boutonniere.
Winter comes to Texas,
and an ever-rising wind
plays the tune.

M'lady, it is no mean feat to make a tumbleweed dance, even with a poet's Gypsy fiddle tucked under your chin!

Ya make me see them gad about like teddy bears at a picnic...

You see? I too have worn (at times) a carrot necklace!

The sparseness of the scene along with the metaphor, make this an interesting write...a snapshot of the time then when you were keenly watching..thank you...enjoyed your view and words

You had me at tumbleweeds dance...a fine poem. One might say exciting, invigorating, ennervating, and just plain makes me want to sing.

Howdy, Pilgrim! It's been a while, I reckon!

I am such a fan of your poetry on Texas! It is not only vividly descriptive, it actually takes me there and I can see and smell and experience it for myself ~ but through a real Texan's eyes! ~ yours!

Lovin' hug 'n a smiley face,

Linda

Hi Pilgrimage, I don't believe we've met. How did that happen? well, any way, this poem is so good. I'm saving it for my best friend, Patsy, who is from Texas. Nice to meet you.
