‘tis no applause that echoes
from the sky down to the ground
but the thunderous ire of many minds
forced to witness my two-step.

Forward/back, forward/back.
My ears are deaf to their “turn, turn”
shouted from that gallery
some say cannot exist.

And ‘tis no applause that echoes
once the dreaming is all done
but the moans of a soul
some say cannot exist.

Some say the words do not exist,
some say the dreams aren’t real,
and some say there’s a reason
no one hears or lives the dream.

The reason is (fill in the blanks);
it doesn’t matter half as much
what’s written on the tag
as what I choose to set down
in the corners of my mind.

I’ve set the turn, turn, turn around,
next to the moans of soul
because one day when the time is right
the turn around will spin those moans
into murmurs of delight.

Some say it will not ever be
but … what, what, what?
I’m deaf, you see!

"The reason is (fill in the blanks);"

~ That's a great idea! It would be interesting to see how some readers would fill in the blanks.

Charming write.

Thanks Linda, James and Roniece!  Maybe forward/back isn't so bad when compared to the standing still which is deadly!

I used to as a kid try walking three steps forward and then two steps back. It got me no where. So I tried five steps forward and two steps back. I think I then decided not to try back steps and I got where I was going faster. I love your mind.. "late"

Thanks "late" - Yes, good advice but sometimes life decrees the backward moves for the purpose of survival although why one would want to survive without love beats me.

Thank you so much Arctic Wind and thank you too for your comment on my "How Special" in Open 40. My posts go back a few years now and I wonder exactly when they will come to an end.  Life is so full of things to notice that perhaps not yet for awhile.

Thanks again,
Helen

The whole poem is amazing, dear Helen.
One fine fine work!

When we listen well, we perceive "guidelines" for our moves, but I am positive that all steps, whether forwards or backwards, have their deep meaning.

love,

Hi Honey!

Oh what an emotive piece! I liked this very much and ironocally, happen to work with deaf people so it really struck a chord with me!

A great message delivered so well!
