Soul of a Poet, Body of a Man

Soul of a Poet, body of a man,
Yet, of all the loveliness that is lost,
Still, words flow freely when emotion swells,
As now I paint a picture of the cost.
While underlying all is still "The Plan"
--Grandiloquence cannot describe this "must"--
To stir the breast where love and hatred dwells,
When other longings swiftly fade to dust.

Body of a man, Poet of a lie,
Where all the hope and fear still nightly burns:
A thousand suns that sear the flesh to bone,
Cannot illuminate where darkness churns.
Thus, mirthful prose occludes my soulless cry,
And creeps full-bodied--gowned to fit the smile--
As lackey kingdoms cheer this fraud-born throne,
While praise is spurned and harshly brought to trial.

Soul of a Poet, mind of a Martyr:
A dwelling where demons and angels laze.
Yet, even the angels have horns and tails,
And with haloed demons will nightly raze
The sanctuary where I would barter
All wing-borne creatures for tranquility...
With forlorn hope I seek my bed of nails,
And slumber, tortured, with nobility.

I prefer to be a dreamer among the humblest, with visions to be realized, than lord among those without dreams and desires. -Khalil Gibran

!What a fine write!
Your bed of nails has stuck you with some fine 'die-hard' romantic poetry!

Hi, RDB.

Thanks for your "wonderful" comments!  I actually got the title idea from something that a friend said to me.  It's one of the very few times that I started with only a title and wrote a poem to fit.

Thanks again,
John

Hi, Midnitesun.

You are too kind (but keep it coming!)  I haven't written "darkly" in a while, so I felt that I had to loose some demons.  Catharsis completed!

Thanks for writing!

You express a magical mind in this catharsis.
Striking lines John.  Enjoyed.

Hi, John! I read in your reply to RDB, that the title came first and the poem followed suit! Might I say that you did a mighty fine job of it in the process!

Loved it!!!

Big hug,

Linda

Hi again, TD!

Yes, it was a sort of catharsis.  I was in a relatively dark place, and wrote thusly.  Moreover, I am glad that you enjoyed my write as, sadly, these days, I don't get to write nearly as much as I would wish.

I have been moderately ill, and my girlfriend is "preggers."  She is due in early February, so I have been hopping around trying to build a suitable nest, if you know what I mean.

I write as time permits...which is rarely, if at all.   I do visit as often as I can, so look for me on the boards!

Thanks again,
John

Hi, Linda.

I, too, read all of the other posts when I comment just to see what other people are saying.  Thanks for your encouraging comments!

Hugs back,
John
