Take A Ride With Chance

The old and rusty gate awaits
and greets my grip in Mornings' glow.
The waking sun, she waves to me
A sweeping red and orange "Hello!".

The sleeping weeds are drooling dew.
I should not shake them as I pass.
I stay within the trodden trail
but still I wake some groggy grass.

The barn ahead's in shadows' shroud
but seems to smile as I appear.
A weathered, windblown plank begins
to bang as if to clap in cheer.

I touch my worn and wooden friend -
ole creaky castle of these lands.
For many years he's stood in pride
since built with care by fathers' hands.

Upon the wall there hangs the pail.
My pal of plastic - gray and plain.
Into my palm it seems to leap
prepared to hold its daily grain.

Inside a bag it slowly sinks
and sates itself in tiny seed.
Then off we go to see my Chance,
the beauty queen I've come to feed.

I see her there inside her stall
with chestnut hair and midnight mane.
Her hazel eyes get wide and shine
as I undo her stables chain.

She meets me there the inside the door
and greets the grain with giddy neigh.
She eats her meal from out her trough
as though she knows my plan today.

I grab my saddle off its shelf
and hug it dearly like a child.
The smell of leather fills my nose
as I return to Chance beguiled.

With darling donned in western dress
and I astride her high in stance,
we'll breathe and taste the mornings joy
as I will take a ride with Chance.

Xillus_Xavier, that was really beautiful, I could actually feel how much this ritual meant to you and Chance. Also I loved the play on words for the title...well done.

Xillus Xavier, I certainly know the pleasure you feel in saddling up Chance and going for a ride. I learned to ride almost as soon as I could walk and the amount of pleasure one receives is almost incomparable. you are not only a lover of Chance but a wonderful poet as well. I look forward to more of that style of verse.
