Still I see the old Hardwick house
As it was not so long ago,
Standing like a dowager empress
Overlooking the highway below.

In aging, Victorian splendor,
She dominates with grace
The forest that closes around her
In a passionate, green embrace.

Seen through the curtains of rain
That the winters of Salem bring
Or nestled amid the flowering trees
Of a picturesque Oregon spring.

If I close my eyes I smell lilacs
And hear the buzzing of bees,
Busy among the pink and white blossoms,
In the orchard of apple trees.

I remember the old, wooden porch
With tangled white roses entwined,
And the door that will always be open
...Somewhere in my mind.

Thank you Lindsey,
The Hardwick house was an old house we rented when I was little. It was pretty old and not inthe greatest shape but I loved it there.
