Repetition creates habit.
And so...
I watched the Labor Day Telethon...

Saw Ed...
Make a mistake...
Heard Jerry say...
"Where did you study...
North Carolina ?"

Laugh Clown Laugh

Lawdy, we is a 'flicted folk

With several hundred channels
and nothing to watch...
I landed on " I Love The 70s"
With the unrealistic hope
that Disco would only
receive slight mention.

But, Charlie told of the Devil
and a Georgia fiddling contest
that put Galax Virginia to shame.

I heard jokes about...
"Who knew...The Devil plays a fiddle?"

Laugh Clown Laugh

There are those of us
Who have always known.

But...
If you have never been
down to the crossroads
with your guitar in hand...

or...

In a cemetery at midnight...
playing "Ol' Dan Tucker"
(The Devil's Song)

How could you know?

Laugh Clown Laugh

Lawdy, we is a 'flicted folk

And...
Although, I will admit
that a tune with a banjo
and a guitar... referred to
as "dueling banjos"...
may raise some questions...

There are some things
held as common knowledge.

Think it foolish?

When a guitar player...
or a fiddler...
Comes to court...
your sister...
or your daughter...
or your wife...

Laugh Clown Laugh

Your make-up hides a tear.

How in the world did THIS get to the bottom of the page without any replies?????

I knew PiP doesn't tend to respond to poetic depth, but good grief! This poem is worthy of publication, and I'm bumping it!

C'mon folks, get with the program.....poetry is SUPPOSED to be deep.

XO, I have to admit that "Dueling Banjos" came to mind when I read the title ~ and I was intrigued! lol

"Lawdy, we is a 'flicted folk"

~ Ain't that the truth!

"Laugh Clown Laugh

Your make-up hides a tear."

~ And ofttimes, it fails to hide that tear.

I love the breadth and depth of your writing.

XO
Linda

"There are those of us
Who have always known."

Made me hold breath... and feel a fleeting nostalgia for Nick at Nite. Laudable imagery.
