.

Autumn
And the salmon are running
Up the river through the harbor
In Michigan City

The sun not yet risen
Above the horizon
Still is felt by the heart
In the cool blue air

There are lanterns
Lit along the shore
And on the break wall
That reaches out
Under the glow
Of a morning star

If one lives
And loves long enough
Life becomes more and more
In memory of who isn’t there

That good old man
Sitting in a fold up chair
At the end of the pier

The beautiful girl
With her radiant hair
Casting a line
Into the sea

.

Bait, his dream
Fish, his heart
My sincere wish

Beautiful poem. I esp love

"If one lives
And loves long enough
Life becomes more and more
In memory of who isn’t there"

How true
Generally you put you sigh at the end of your poem. Now, you hide it IN the poem. It gave different feelings. As if the emotion was too strong to be allowed to go free and out of control. Beautiful!

My dear friend's mother passed away today...a extremely kind woman at 73. My own mother is struggling for her last breath now. I am living a life as such as that only memory carries me along my life journey. Shall I live a life like this?

The poem touched me deeply. It has kept replaying all day long. sad, though.

Thank you all

Edna Saint Vincent Millay wrote that
childhood is a kingdom where no one important dies.
The sadness then is a sign that one has become an adult
however much one might have wished not having had to.

Thanks again

Every vacation's got to end sometime....and after several months away from the blue pages, what better way to return than by sampling Huan Yi?

I could do more than sample by now, I could read a book's worth just catching up, and there should be books.

The old man on the pier reminds me of my childhood neighbor sitting on his porch in his folding chair. Makes me nostalgic -- both sweet and bittersweet. Good poetry.

Yes, I really like this. I want to be the girl with radiant hair! You've created a whole fantasy world for me. Saving this...
