The remissions died this year
Those three weeks in spring
never arrived, they just sent
silent regrets along
with a note from autumn,
saying its own ease
would not be returning either

So the baby buds of March
would not be this year…
planted, watered, loved
Instead, the Lion eats the lamb

In October the harvest moon
rises up only to cry,
for there is none here to reap
the ground is not readied
for new growth

I stand in the middle
of the garden I grew,
the rich dirt now dry
like starved sand

I look at the weeds
that take over the bed
much as the pain
has taken the power
from my body
The good days are gone
and next winter, no
I will not be able
to stand on my own

I tell myself to buy
cut flowers at the store
but I know I won’t…
I will be too busy
fighting this damage
to my independence
saving what energy
is left for finding
my way back
to my circle of earth
coaxing it to grow
sunflowers and lilies

Because I am not
like the moon…
I will not cry again
I will be the Lion
making a soft place for
the Lamb to lie down
and live beside me
forever

Caroline..... sometimes words are not enough to follow something like this.
Know that you have my empathy. I will pray for you and I'm sure James and others will do likewise.

Your poem has moved me to some very sobering tears. (normally I'm bawling drunken mess)

But know that I understand, and I love the season and garden metaphor--I am a former gardener who used to spend all of my waking hours coaxing paradise out of a former swamp/landfill.

Oh my new friend, I will not give up hope, but I understand a certain amount of acceptance now too. There's a poem I'd like to repost for you--I hope that's not too ego-oriented--I just thought that perhaps you might like it, and I think it suits both of us at this particular time in our lives.

(and I'll be writing you shortly as well, my lovely new friend )

A heart breaking melody.
Great write, but very sad.

Ms Shadows ~ thank you for reading. Your poetry always speaks volumes to me. I feel you are a kindred spirit.

Rod - thank you, thank you so much. Prayer is always the best medicine in the world. Gardening is second LoL.. As long as I am able to pray, I'll keep all of you with me also.

Blazey Darlin ~ PLEASE post it for me. You know how much I love your poetry. And I think, of all the things I now can't do, filling up that spot, upon which once stood over a hundred years of tangled thorny vines and poison ivy, an ancient wood house which sadly burned away in a fire and yes, some swamp too - I miss that the most. At least I took photos   {hugs}

JL ~ thank you for reading... and maybe not so sad. I have an idea that though the remissions have stopped coming, I will not stop. I will find a way. Besides, I hate tomatoes from the store! I'd rather grow my own

Dear Caroline

The only good fodder comes from a place within the heart and mind that turns the negative around and even without seeds that you can see, plants only good.

The analogies and metaphors mix well...

and as others, those last lines are the clinchers.

This is beyond beautiful..
and although I do not the the story,
if there is one, behind this write..
I shall keep you in my prayers as well.

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.

Awwww, this sounds so sad. Stand strong, my friend. NEVER GIVE UP!
I was outside, yesterday. And, when I looked towarded the front of the house, I noticed some kind of plants. I notice a few of them have little buds on the ends of them. I got a little excited, because I have always wanted some tulips. I'm not sure, but I think I might just get my wish. And, I didn't even have to plant them.
