Lumpy Oatmeal makes me Crazy!

I read some ‘good’ poetry the other day
And you know, it didn’t make sense to me
But it was published and recognized
as written by some of the best poets

As I stood in front of the lines of shelves
Rows upon rows of colorful covers
All sandwiching words

Wonderful words which taunted my taste buds
I savored the tapestry each thread of thought wove

My lips moved as I read quietly
And I still wondered if I could ever write
In a manner that I could not understand
What I wrote

And if I ever do, I wondered
Will I truly be a writer?

I learned a lot in my college literature class but can't remember much now all these years later

I write what people can understand

never liked the complex stuff myself

Like Dixie, I just write.

It doesn't much matter to me if people understand it not--it used to be bother me, but not any more...

as long as they FEEL something, even boredom, I'm happy.

Let the academics argue, I say.

Much enjoyed, a.

Nice poem. Metaphors are great when the writer is lost for words, and are having a hard time describing there feelings. Me personally I struggle with free verse when it comes to understanding what a poet is trying to say

Thank you all.

And I think you are all right (yep, you are alright).  I know what I love to read - and many of my favorite poets are right here on these blue pages.

James

You are so right
I will remember your words next time I find myself lost in the words of others

Ogden Nash is one of my favorite poets...I understand most of it but I wonder if he did. There are alot of double meanings and between the lines. So many ways to take so many things.....
In other words I think that even if the poet doesn't understand at the time of writing it, it always means something sooner or later.

I really like this.....was wondering myself...do you write books....if not you should...HUGS!!!

"Rows upon rows of colorful covers

One does not have to be a gourmet to write and what you have served up here, that I have read, has pleased my pallet.  Keep posting your sandwiches.  *wink wink*
(I obviously really liked your use of "sandwiching words")

always seeking joy, adventure and romance and wishing you find the same
