speaking siren sounds with velvet voice so sweet
she lay nestled in the security of watching eyes—
late at night we three talked
a friend, myself, and the voice beyond the door

with silken speech, I crafted words that worked
their auditory charm and permeated the curtain
placed upon that door of oaken words that night
as locks did double duty and kept our souls apart

soon, a connection made, the voice beyond the door
chose not my friend, and he did leave
that voice to only me—we talked and laughed and talked,
eyes never meeting, never knowing one another

and the next day we left and went our ways
to boundaries drawn by lines distanced by the miles
we never spoke again and that door is but a memory…
alas, we’ll never meet, never know, never…, but then

I fear I hear another voice, a voice beyond the door

This is a striking write...brought many thoughts swirling to me.
You captured, for me, the barriers we all place around what is most precious and sensitive to us.  Well written.
