When I finally think it's all over
my heart has accepted that it's fate -
When I finally admit and concede
That I have to close that gate;
When I finally learned to sleep at night
my face devoid of tears,
when I finally look toward the future
and not dwell on past years...

     . . .  You called.

Not just in my dreams -
your usual place,
Not just in my memories -
occupying your own personal space,
Not just in my head,
where I could vanquish you out,
But for real - clear - in my ear,
leaving no room for doubt.

. . . why?

To let me know you had memories
that sometimes haunt you, too?
To share with me that you still cared?
(That....  you did not have to do.)
To exercise and test
your power of control -
To see if you could still
rock my very soul?

To tell me that you, also,
are unable to forget - but still try?
To find out if the sound of your voice
could still make me cry?

. . . I think you got your answer.

Well, as in days of old -
back to square one,
but there's one difference this time . . .
I know it can be done.
I made a startling revelation,
That I never believed was true,
That although I may not want to....

I can live without you.

Seems like you're just now experiencing
what I've lived with for years.
Now . . . can you understand
the reason for my tears?
. . . I'm sorry you have to go through this - but

I really loved this, one of my favs of yours...enjoyed the perception, the realization, yet, knowing the reality of it all...even the fantasy parts...all was good, and could be again, and yet, knowing, and trusting...if it is meant to be, it will be, if not, so be it...
