Three Times Too Many

Those careless words that are
So often thrown at you
Does pierce right through the heart
Breaking it right in two

The first two times was bad enough
Then came the third time
Those words were the worst of all
And practically blew my mind

A third time wasn't enough
The attack came once again
It was time to make a decision
The relationship had to end

Four different times were
Three times too many
And, your target to lash out at
I could no longer be

I was given no other choice
But, to put an end to it all
A forgiving heart didn't help
I had to protect me

A heart filled with forgiveness
Can only take so much
And, inspite of its concern
A heart does turn tough

to wear;
yet, some of us have to, in order
to let them grow, and to allow
us some sanity, by which to continue
growing.

Yet, your strength is showing.

There are times when we have to toughen up our heart just to be able to survive!

It is the gentle ones that can be taken the most for granted.
