Listening to every heart

0 posted 2007-01-23 07:57 PM

coming home

in taking a late lunch
had to get away
computers are down
what’s to miss

took a short break,
went into the
budget bookstore,
looked around, couldn’t
find what I needed

asked the sleepy man,
“do you have poetry?”

he shook awake, pointed and said
“turn around”
and then he said
“keep walking, I’m on
your tail,”

and I thought

“go figure…”

back of store,
small anteroom,
holding poetry,
asked "do you have McKuen?"
and he said
"maybe one or two....just
look around"

so in this small room,
dim lights,
a small reading chair

books marked down,
down,
down…

crooking my head sideways
to read titles

I touched
two,

found myself
again

Listen to the Warm
Lonesome Cities...

to add these
to the two I have...

Coming Close to the Earth
Celebrations of the Heart

now I am a little happier....

I missed Sloopy....

but no longer....

I hadn’t realized I could
be transported so easily
backwards

now, to find Stanyan Street

my quest has only begun

for I do not want
e-bay prices
and the easy way out

I want to find a copy
inscribed

that felt the hands
caught the tears
heard the sighs
invigorated the heart
captured and let fly
the mind

of another poet

it’s okay of stains
or a dog’s ear
or two

it’s okay

it’s coming home

that’s what counts

someday, I will have
them all.

Oh Karilea, this is fantastic.  Makes me want to cozy up with a good poetry book.  Nicely done Mommak.

Sissie....I have a present from the past within the cave of shelves, all dust.  I must look for it, I must!

Once upon a time..
I didn't have any Rod McKuen books..
even though I went to his site every day
just to read him.
I so much wanted one of my own...
all over this city
in disappointment I roamed,
when a beautiful lady
took me under her wing..
Sent to me Rod McKuen's work
and those yummy Dove things.
Now I believe I have found
his complete collection...
and yes, the pages do catch your tears,
and smiles, and sighs.

remembering...
Rod McKuen and Sunshine!

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.

That passage was inspired writing Karilea!!

This is a wonderful image, whenever I read a poet I love I too want the feel of the impact s/he made on those who read before me.

for I do not want
e-bay prices
and the easy way out

I want to find a copy
inscribed

that felt the hands
caught the tears
heard the sighs
invigorated the heart
captured and let fly
the mind

of another poet
