THE DROWNING NEWS

andrea yates
drowned
her five children
in the tub –
the one
she drowned last
was named noah

god almighty
drowned
the whole world
in the rain –
one that he spared
was named noah

this is not a comparison
but a simple report

the floor
near the tub
was slippery
with bubbles
of madness
that drifted
from tiny fingers

the sky
above the ark
was filled
with aching
wings
of birds
that fell
into a sea
of flailing arms

there were curses and prayers

there were prayers and curses

Wow.
I can't critique this - it's elegant, simple, and very very powerful.

Can't say I enjoyed, exactly, but what a read!

I was chilled to the marrow of my bones when I saw, a while back, a 'special' report on TV about this horrific story. You just brought it all back to me in vivid technicolor.

A chilling and tragic tale ~ well told.

Where I live, Yates is in the news a lot. Your "simple report" is compelling, chilling... excellent!
