in the shadows

.

Somewhere down the river,
where my childhood
remembers sounds of buried promises
rushing in the pagan floods of Spring,
I was taught I ought to pray to Jesus
but he never came around;

somewhere down the river,
where the ocean chases shadows
in the treasures of its tides
I wish it could carry me away
to where I might be allowed to say
my heart will always be with you
when dreams get washed away.

Somewhere down the river,
where the waves lick at the sky
I listen to gull stories ringing
as they fly always full of hunger
and self embellishment,
they are criers of the village
endless tides have strewn before me.

Somewhere down the river,
where I was born to dreamers
who didn't share their dreams,
they raised up three children
in a church world where it seemed
love was never valued
and faith was always spent
on gods and sacraments
that never healed the dying,
that couldn't pay the rent.

"Somewhere down the river,

Sad to say that I can relate to this part of your poignant heart-filled write.
It always amazes me that anyone can place so much value on an indoor pew spot that isolates and blocks the soul from the sky, and also separates the hearts that sit side-by-side.

Hello C.

It's sad, how the wild calling of dreams can be shot down, by the very things that should hold them up.

if you don't mind, I'll keep this one
for reasons I keep to myself because it's best that way

"my heart will always be with you
when dreams get washed away."...love this two verses. touched me deeply...this is one way of living, not only when talk about love, feelings. Many things are in our heart  when dream is no longer there. means no chance to come true.

beautiful poem and again beautiful.

Haunting poetry
It will linger with me
and I'll be back to read again.

I so share this thought. I find most churches are great dividers and not open to the warmth it should give to those in need. I love this whole poem, and hope your dreams come through in some way... someday. thank you, martyjo

Dear Box of Ice, I felt every blessed line.
~ An exceptionally moving piece of poetry.
I also enjoyed each and every one of the thought-full responses that you received. ~ especially that of Midnitesun. ~ My sentiments exactly.

Loving hug,

EA
