Watch the news
and saline pools
well deep within my eyes.
The children,
they play on streets
admidst the mortar fire.
Streets,
they run with blood,
a daily scene,
I want to scream
just thinking of the damage done.
The streets,
and children,
they both run
in blood.
Tears well up
and want to fall,
want to cry
for one and all.
For theirs,
and ours
so far from home,
I pray the suffering
won’t be long
and ev’ry child
safely returned.

Jo, your prayer is in the hearts of many but perhaps just not enough to stop the fighting and the suffering.  It really makes one wonder about human beings and it saddens me to be counted as one of them.
Take care!

lily jo, I literally got a lump in my throat as I read your pleading, prayerful words.

An exceptionally moving write.

May all families have their children returned home safe and sound.

Y'know, Jo...

I read this when you first posted it.

As I had no answer,
[and you know I like to answer]
it was hard to encapsulate a reply

that was worthy.

Your poetry is very worthy.

It is just very hard to tender words
to those poems that break us apart.
