The sky has been blue for many a year
like the eyes in the face of love
looking down, down, to the ground
hoping again to find the trail
once freely and happily trodden.

The sea has now rolled over the past
and left in its wake another clean slate
and the trees have bowed to the human race
in belief of the wisdom of fools.

And nobody knows where to find
the hidden yet treasured artifact, you
but here these days an unlit candle
tempts with the feel of memory
to make of the yearning
a commonplace thing.

Older by far the eyes flicker at last
but, nay, it’s the scared, afraid
running amok in a manmade maze
unable to find the way out
for many a trail sidetracks the slow
and many a trail leads nowhere fast.

The sky is still blue; I’m looking for you
along a trail I someday will find
and this I know because it feels right
to dream and then to believe!
