.

The snow
Drifts slowly
To the ground

Among these trees
In the park by the lake
Withered reeds along its shore

Shiver in a frigid air
Whose perfect silence
Seems somehow cold

There are no birds—
Sparrows robins or cardinals
Joyous with crimson wings

All it takes
Is one vicious snake
Or unrepentant idiot

To turn
Even this little Eden
Into a sadness
Where no one sings

.

Helen,

I rarely know why
I just do my best
to get out of the way

Thank you

John
