I will never forget!

Catbird! he points with obvious glee,
clip-clopping around the dogwood tree,
A small gray bird, mews it’s music and preens
for a tittering tot in tiny blue jeans.

September sizzles with sights and sounds,
a marvelous morning of noise abounds,
Every bleep, blurt and buzz is heard with joy
as I wander the woods with my sweet little boy.

Sunlight shimmies off the rainbow fish,
in a silver stream, where they splash and splish,
fat toads croak to my small son’s delight
and slip from his clutch to hop out of sight.

Autumn crackles underfoot on the road
green grass ripples, flowers explode
Every honk, every hiss cannot be ignored,
not a cluck or a quack can be left unexplored

But soon the blue in the sky will shatter,
clatter with many more serious matters,
Innocence bright, on this day will blur,
United hearts will pound, unsure.

When thunder quakes from a distant land
and shakes the earth on which we stand
the crashing, the clashing, the banging, the boom
will rumble with fears of unknown doom.

Today though we hear only pleasant noise,
God’s gift to mommies and their little boys,
A lovely stroll in mid-September,
a morning of peace that we’ll always remember.

Wonderful write, dear Deborah.

How much indeed would we like to preserve a peaceful world for our children!

Outstanding contribution to the memory of that tremendous event.

Love and peace.

Memories...yesterday...watching the child grow...and wondering, what does the future hold? Do we dare risk stepping through the mirror into tomorrow? ...Hmmm, just living it! one day at a time...enjoying the day...memories and growing old with those memories.

Thanks to both of you for your replies!  I wrote this years ago but wanted to re-post it again on 911. It is a hard day to get through without constant thoughts of the victims and their families...the loss still hurts.
