Undying Words

I saved love notes from callow youths
Who set my heart aflutter
Until I met the one who could
Turn that same heart to butter.

The Valentines he sent to me
Throughout the happy years
Are wrapped in finest tissue now,
Though spotted by my tears.

The loveliest of all came in
The year he left forever;
A sweet memento of the ties
That cruel death can't sever.

Though many lonely years have passed,
Since I first read this line,
My heart turns into butter still;
"Will you be my Valentine?"

Those old memories have a knack of popping into our lives every now and then - sometimes it's good to remember esp. the lovely and pleasant ones.

Thanks for posting, and don't you throw them away. *smile*

Oh that was really lovely.

I nearly cried and I can relate it to a situation of my own.

Well rhymed.
