Of Love and Birds

The grass is green,
The sun shines bright
Birds chirp above
Singing love songs in flight

But I sit down here
In misery, in pain
While others revel in sunshine,
I beg for rain

Rain, silent and sharp like a knife,
A physical exclamation of the misery inside
Of knowing that my love is miles away
That now, pen and paper are my sole confides

He sits there, blissful and unaware,
And in my mind’s eye I see him grin
And my tears mix with the rain sliding down my cheeks
From his beauty, which shines from within

And oh, how my heart does yearn for my love!
How it kills me to think he’s not here!
The one who can make the birds sing once more,
And wipe away all of my tears!

For a second without him feels like ten years!
My lover, my husband, my all!
I never want to leave his side,
And my heart bursts with love when he calls

He said we’ll be together for always
And I believe him with all of my heart
Because if my love says he’ll come once more,
I know that we’ll never part!

The grass is green,
The sun shines bright
Birds chirp above
Singing love songs in flight

And I sit down here
In happiness and cheer
Dreaming dreams of his soft touch
For I know he is near
Singing songs with the birds
Of his kind, loving words
That I’m sure once again
I will hear
