Lover cries softly
In the bitter closing night,
Gentle arms embrace.

Dedicated to Shannon Rose Kelly, my beloved.

Hi, Suncleaver. I like the contrast between love's softness, and the bitterness of the night. I also love the immediacy of the haiku form---much spoken in few words in a brief passage of time.

Suncleaver - when lovers cry softly, a tender embrace is heavenly. Nice write that leaves nice thoughts...

Yo Suncleaver,

This is a very good Senryu poem.  While Haiku deals with nature, Senryu deals with humans.

Thank you for your appreciation guys.

But Bobby, isn't the senryu form usually scathing or ironic?

*post edit* My apologies Bobby, you are indeed correct. A senryu form doesn't have to be ironic but it does have to be human. Thank you for broadening my knowledge on this subject.

Yes! It worked. I've been trying to teach myself HTML for 3 days! Finally, a picture...

That is a lovely painting of you and your beloved!

A softly spoken senryu.

May your Valentine's Day be a loving one!

Thank you very much for your kind comments guys.

My only regret is that I won't be able to spend this special day with her as she's studying in Scotland. But the strength and love of my heart will carry across all the miles, and she knows that.

Love will conquer all, it is the only thing I belive in. I live my life for her gentle smile and beautiful laughing eyes. Without her I am nothing, an empty man and an inspirational void. She fills the hollow of my soul.

I wish each of you well on this day granted by love's grace.
