A
"friend"
said,

"What?

and

Where?

is

"Enlightenment"

I wanted to say,

"Yes,it is"

in response to the statement.

but, in giving allowance
to the possibility that
a question had been asked...

I thought to reply...

"It is whatever
you want it to be
and everything
you do not want.

It is the scent and sight
of flowers on a Spring day.

It is that which
burns my skin
in the Summer

It is that which
bites my nose
in the Winter.

It falls from the sky
in drops and flakes

It is that which I breathe
and that which I bury.

It does not care

Meaning...

it does not show
preference or partiality

It allows

and in
allowing...
it allows
rejection

It allows the worm
to feed upon the dirt.

Allows the bird to
feed upon the worm.

Allows the cat to
feed upon the bird.

Allows the coyote
to feed upon the cat.

on and on and on

It allows you to
form distinctions.

Allows you to say
"this"
IS
and
"that"
is NOT

It allows the seeming
presence of "lacking"

For, if
"lacking"
was lacking...
there would be
something lacking.

But, with the seeming
presence of "lacking"...

ALL is complete

It is that
from which
all are born.

It is that which brings peace
and that which wages war.

It is that which brings suffering
and causes sufferers to die.

It is  IT

and cannot
be "IT"
without the
"i"

As the song says...

"I like"it"

I Love"It"

"I" want
some more
of"IT"

and if
"you"
ever think
that "you"
do NOT
love"IT"...

that's ok

You love
THAT
too

It is the first born child
of the barren woman
and tears of starving babies.

It sits upon the surface,
where ripples expand

and rests in ocean depths,
where thirsty fish drown."

But,I could only say...

"Yes,it is."

Enlightenment, the word will never be the same again! "Wise" is only the beginning of my humble appreciation.

Thanks,

Since I see that you inivite constructive critiques, I will ( irregardless of the fact that I am new here..) offer this :

Nothing I would change about anything in the body of your work - but wow it's just too bad you ran out of juice before you were able to come up with a title for it....

Seriously, that "title" just SOOO misleadingly detracts from the value of the work it is given to.

Uriah, I must say I agree with DharkOne.  I think the poem is superb, excellent, powerful, magnificent, interesting, clever and held my attention, every thought-wandering-step of the way, but the title, though I sorta think I get why you did it, really does spoil the poem in my very humble opinion (and probably stops a lot of people who would enjoy it, even getting to read it).

Wow!  Okay, now I'm stumped.  Anything I may say now will just pale into insignificance so I'll just clap my hands and nod my head.  As far as I'm concerned your title sums IT all up perfectly because until the end of our days we'll never really know what IT is.  So, here's to Skiddily Boop Boop Boop Ohhhh Wiggy Wiggy Wiggy Wiggy ... whatever that may be!  Maybe just LIFE!

By George, I think you've got "IT" - and "I like it.  I love it.  I want some more of it."  I do. Yep.  This is a keeper and the title?  Well it made me smile and wiggy my boop on in here.
