As the trials of 2008 is done
we think of better things to come
questioning how we can make it better
contemplating the outcome

Did we return a stranger's smile,
did we give them the time of day,
or did we rush by without notice
and forget how to laugh and play?

Did we share with our loved ones
or ignored their pleading eyes,
or did we let them know how happy
they made us feel inside?

Did we feel the rain on our faces,
embrace the warmth of the sun,
or did we hustle and forget
how to savor moments of fun?

Did we tell that special someone
how they've filled that empty space,
or did we go to bed in silence
without even an embrace?

As the old year is dying
we think about the New Year
and dream of  resolutions
as 2009 draws near.

MaggieDearestMaggie~
What an optomistic greeting to bring in the New Year !!

I would wish that all of us who feel a need to do so, would be able to put 2008 on the back burners of our lives ... and step into the New Year of 2009 with hopeful expectations for a gracious year ahead~

There are moments of the past year that I would gladly bury ... but I just have to reach for the moments that will bring me back to the footfalls on the pathway that will lead me to tomorrow with the slate wiped clean ... and better visions to greet me (and others) on the dawning of tomorrow~

Love you, kind lady~

The trials of 2008... that they were! *S* My 2008 was defined by IKE... I experienced terror like never before, complete upheaval... and kindnesses I'll never forget. *S* So my resolutions are simple... to keep standing, to not give up or give in... and to keep thanking those who've kept me going. *S* I guess even my wishes have been stripped to the basics. *S*

I thoroughly enjoyed your poem... and as you can see... it made me think. *S*

Flutterwings - I pray 2009 is a lot better than 2008. Unfortunately, I'm not that optimistic that it will be. Nice write...
