The red and black spotted ladybug begins afresh,
She buzzes in circles and lands on a wooden ledge,
She is quick enough to dodge a vicious hand or two,
The six-spotted ladybug enters her journey anew,

She opens her hind wings as a transparent discoverer,
Mistress ladybug travels one hundred miles and lands
On a flower, until it separates from the ground and
travels with Earth’s breath to distant pastures of green.

She follows the flower past a farm and dried-up stream,
She lands gracefully with six legs on moist grass blades,
This beetle uses her antennas to smell aphids and pests,

The ladybug finds a new home for her eggs to hatch.
From instinct, embedded in her head since birth,
She lays hundreds of eggs in the colonies of her foes,

One omnivore devours thousands of newborn nymphs,
And destroys the homelands of plant-eating fools alike,

Her reign of terror lasts three years, and as children spawn,
New ladybugs will travel the world to annihilate the plague.

It's absolutely amazing isn't it. What a wonderful purpose for this small insect to be alive.
OUR earth teems with life. From the snowy Arctic to the Amazon rain forest, from the Sahara Desert to the Everglades swamp, from the dark ocean floor to bright mountain peaks—life abounds. And it is loaded with the potential to amaze us.

It comes in types, sizes, and quantities that stagger the imagination. A million species of insects hum and wiggle on our planet. In the waters around us swim over 20,000 species of fish—some the size of a grain of rice, others as long as a truck. At least 350,000 plant species—some weird, most wonderful—embellish the land. And over 9,000 species of birds fly overhead. These creatures, including man, form the panorama and symphony that we refer to as life.

I really enjoyed this collection of verses on the ladybug.
