Red metal lawn chairs rocking ever so gently from Lake Erie offshore breezes,
July’s green, pungent bouquet wafting up the banks into the yard.

The blackbirds are in the cherry trees again dining on red delights. This ancient brother won’t last long, its roots have become entangled with the air and erosion of sand and soil.

There was a stone on the beach, right at the waters edge, for me it was like scaling a mountain. Its smooth wet surfaces blocked my ascent and eluded my summit. The girls; my sisters, jumped over it with ease. Climbed to its craggy ridges and sat, celebrating sun
and wave.

That stone is still there, buried and revealed countless times by storms and tidal surges.
It is much smaller now, easily scaled, This insurmountable object of my youth…
Is a welcome respite to days of a young boy’s games and memories.

O, to climb again!

My grandfather’s lute plays distant melodies over the red matching table.
As the freshness of those days and their innocence, refresh my memories with sights and sounds of bygone childhood summers.

And thank God for those memories.  What a wonderful reflection on one's youth.

Blessed indeed, to have them and to be able to share them.

Thank you for sharing some of your fond summer memories of your youth. They have stirred some of my own. Smiling, here...

Burk28, this looks more to me like prose disjointed by haphazard hits on the enter key, which in my opinion did not enhance your piece in any way. Just my personal thoughts. All the same, it IS literary. You do write with powerful imagery, you painting the scene vividly. Have a marvelous day! Mark
