someone said I sounded
like bukowski.
I didn’t hit them because
that
felt like something bukowski
might do.

hit them for saying he sounded
like himself I mean.

more likely he would write something
rude
about them and publish it so they
would always know
and could never hit back.

I am ashamed of him for that.

and for some other things.
but not all.

not all.

He's a American beat poet, who makes a big show of being a bum -- and who writes pretty much the way I did up there, bald crude statements that carry a mixture of both hostility and introspection, and of, well, making a big show of being a bum.

Somehow he got famous -- not bad for a derelict.

brings back a fond memory--

someone once said the same about me, but I took it as a compliment.

My reply would probably be disallowed today, but I do enjoy the memory of the easy exchange.

Thanks for the memory prompt.

One could do much worse than sounding like Bukowski!

Under the crud there's a lot of skill, and a true sensitivity to the realities of life. In the right mood, I enjoy him very much, and I've learned some valuable writing lessons from him too.

As I told Raph Giuffrida once, some poets are dancers and some are boxers....but a boxer can be stunningly graceful, and we dancers -- well, some of us can hit damn hard.....

Bukowski wrote:

"Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead."

*smile*

My daughter liked that so much it's her signature now. She overheard me quoting that and just...went off: ("What was that? Who wrote that? Do we have that? GIMME...")

She's a flag-waving little freakazoid, she is.

I'm so proud. Really.

However you might sound, you're Ed... and above giving in to the lure of cheap shots, physical or verbal. *S*

But... oh, man... you can write!!!
