I cannot see the bouquets strewn along the way
nor feel the presence of your words touching
the shallows of my heart's still beatings

I cannot reach the heights of love's sweet praise
nor step in glory's light along life's well-worn way

There is no sparing to the safe straying along the path
of life's sole stressing, solacing the soul
in caresses soft of our own careless making

I cannot reach the heights of love's sweet depth
nor bask in glory's light along life's well-worn way

When darkness treads the shadowed realm
like soft-pressed foot steps on virgin soil
pressed into forms that angels trod

I cannot stretch to heights of love's sweet rest
nor drench my lore in life's well-worn way

I cannot, I simply, surely cannot

I may not have a complete grasp of what you are saying ~ but I sure like the way you 'said' it! It's 'purdy' poetry!

This is truly amazing, dear Steaven.

But I think you can!

Very nice perspective Steavan

Like the turn around reasoning in this......

"I cannot reach the heights of love's sweet depth
nor bask in glory's light along life's well-worn way"

Well done indeed!

tao,
I am honored...truly, truly honored...thank you...

inked,
excellent insight...for the key is in the 'will not'...I appreciate the thoughtful comments

Margherita,
thank you for your encouragement, however, this really isn't about being able to 'do all things', but rather a choice of deciding not to take that choice...thank you for the very gracious reply...'amazing', aw shucks... *smiles*

Bobby,
thank you, sir...not just for commenting, (I do appreciate that) but for reading it for meaning

Eric,
thank you for quoting those lines...for me (at least) that is the cruxt of the write...appreciate your intensely insightful remarks...

passing,
thank you for reading and commenting, and you are 100% right, but this write was to highlight that 'path not taken' as to draw attention to the choice of non-conformity to the well worn path of 'the way things have always been'  always honored by your reflections...
